Worcestershire has an exceptional natural environment, rich in wildlife habitat of international, national and regional importance set within landscapes of outstanding beauty and diversity. The dual objectives of the County Council's Strategic Planning and Environmental Policy Team are: to provide leadership in the conservation and enhancement of the natural environment and to promote and deliver sustainable development within the County. We are now looking to fill two key appointments so that we can realise this objectives.
County Ecologist - To enable the Authority to fulfil its statutory duties and requirements under the Natural Environment and Rural Communities (NERC) Act 2006, we are seeking the appointment of a second Ecologist.
The post will provide specialist technical advice to County Council departments and partners on their responsibilities under biodiversity and planning legislation, planning policy and best practice guidance duties and responsibilities including ecological impact assessment, protected/important habitat and species survey requirements and mitigation, compensation and enhancement measures.
The post will also play an important role in contributing to the achievement of the council's LBAP commitments and respond to consultations on strategies and plans.
Required qualifications: First degree or equivalent in ecology, or in environmental science or a related subject with an ecology post-graduate qualification.
You should have a genuine and demonstrate able appreciation and understanding of ecology, biodiversity and broader sustainability issues, illustrated by qualifications/training and ideally work experience. Applicants should have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
You will be responsible for conducting and the commissioning of ecological surveys and impact assessments and may have to defend findings at appeals and public enquiries.
Applicants should be an IEEM member or eligible for IEEM membership.
