In 2002, as Historic Landscape Characterisation (HLC) reached its eighth year and as half of England had been mapped by the programme, an application review was commissioned by English Heritage to establish in detail how HLC was being used. The review revealed a number of good practice examples which demonstrate that HLC is a versatile tool, used to inform an extensive range of applications as well as an increasing number of new and emerging projects. This book showcases these examples as well as providing an introduction to the HLC method and discussing future developments.
